While the Rolling Stones have a good 20 years on U2, it’s safe to say that U2 can match them on quality in the body of their work, as the last 20 years for the Stones have been shit.
There’s nothing surprising about U218 Singles [Interscope] –it’s quite simply a collection of some of their best songs from every era. It’s a reminder of how great this band still is—even though at this point they’re somewhat of a cliché. It’d be easy to write U2 off today as old men in stupid sunglasses. Don’t. Revisit the lyrics to songs like “Pride (In the Name of Love)”. Feel the passion of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Have some fun with “Vertigo,” and let “New Year’s Day” knock you on your ass. There’s a reason U2 are still around. This is it.
